I found the discussion on talking to the dead very interesting. I found a video here that is a segment of the show Crossing Over with John Edward. In the show John claims he can talk to your dead loved ones. The video shows him doing this and all I can say is wow. I agree with James Randi in the video we watched in class that John Edwards is full of crap. He starts with obvious things that could have to do with anything and tries to narrow it down. I will say that he is very good at pretending to talk to the dead but the audience will not question him when he gets something wrong. I think it is wrong to pay people to pull random things out of their butt and get lucky with guesses sometimes.
I know what you mean. It's funny that they never question him even when he's blatantly wrong. He basically just does a guess and check table except its with people's lives instead of math. It's amazing that his audiances buy it
ReplyDeleteJames Randi is actually quite inspiring and the way he talks to his audience is really a talent that he has gained throughout his life. I feel as if he tries to add a bit of humor just to show how ridiculious these people are when they say they have supernatural powers. After looking at that video in class I also have become somewhat of a fan of Randi and kind of look forward to what he will do next.
ReplyDeleteI think you're right to say that the guy certainly has gotten good at pretending to talk to dead people. I just can't believe that people would be able to sleep at night knowing that they are lying to people about their loved ones. This is why I completely agree with James Randi and his attitude toward these "psychic". Honestly, they should be called illusionists, because thats the only thing they're actually doing. However, if you buy into this stuff and actually pay for it, then I guess no one is to blame but you.
